bio:

sitprettynow. was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is half Colombian, was raised in Miami, FL and has been living in Prague, Czech Republic since 2004. In attempting to find a sense of self among three cultures, she developed an intuitive, psychological, and humanitarian perception of the world inside and around her.

She uses a camera as a means of connecting and communicating with the outside world. She enjoys relocating and experiencing different cultures, altering her reality by moving to unknown locations, and adapting to new surroundings- all of which usually yield invaluable learning.

"Since I was about 10, I remember using a camera. Photography is my primary medium, but I like to mix it up. Installation allows me to actively make things and get dirty, while still existing as a photograph in the end. I like paint, glitter, resin, glue, lacquers and power tools. In my work you'll see ladders, anxiety, organs, abuse, disconnection, water, lace, broken things, survival, healing and light."

sitprettynow. creates images that express psychological states of being that societies are afraid to confront. She tries to depict the distance that exists between individual suffering and societal norms, that refusal to recognize what is happening under the surface. Those things that if not voiced will eventually eat us up inside.

sitprettynow. is adamant about pushing internal boundaries and discovering new versions of her-self. Artistic expression helps bring her ideas and emotions to a tangible environment and keeps her from remaining dangerously stagnant. She hopes to continue working in mediums that best fit her inspiration. More importantly, she hopes to start a conversation.
